This will be the 12th year of the Trail Ride Against Cancer. Over
$140,000 has been raised by the dedicated volunteers who have made it happen.
Silver Spur Riding Club & the Canadian Cancer Society have been hosting this
event and have collected many pledges over the years. The Bob Preuss Memorial
Trail Ride is in memory of Bob Preuss, a long time volunteer with the Canadian
Cancer Society in this area and the person who initially had the idea to hold a
trail ride. He organized the first five rides. Sadly, Bob died in 2002 but we
continue the ride in his memory. The 12th annual “Bob Pruess Memorial Trail Ride Against Cancer”
takes place Saturday, July 4th, 2009. Last year the ride brought in
almost 100 riders and raised over $18,000.00 for the Canadian Cancer Society to
go directly towards cancer research. The Trail Ride Against Cancer takes place
at Craig Creek Ranch in Nanoose Bay, BC. The trail ride gives riders two trail chooses from Nanoose the first being
the “River Ride” across Englishman River and through the beautifully groomed
trails of Top Bridge Regional Park. The second is “Chuck’s Ridge” where riders
get an amazing view! There is also a shorter ride of about 2 hours for those who
would prefer less time in the saddle. There will also be an optional Poker Ride
for those who wish to try their luck. At $20/hand with a 50/50 pot, 50% goes to
the Canadian Cancer Society for research. Riders will ride out in small groups
beginning at 9:00am with the last riders out at 11:00. Check in begins at 8:00am
on the 4th .
