Howdy Trail Riders!
The BCCTRA first CTR of the season is less than 3 weeks away (In Lumby) and I know many of us have been carefully conditioning our horses to be fit and ready for this long-distance riding season.
Our last “official” club training ride for the Central Island region will be held on Saturday, May 25. This is a joint Silver Spur club ride. We will be riding out from Evans Road, near the end of Errington Road. Turn right on Evans road and drive to the end where there’s a cull-de-sac. Turn around and park where there’s space (not on someone’s front lawn). https://maps.google.ca/maps?q=Evans+Road,+Errington,+BC&hl=en&ll=49.287963,-124.382572&spn=0.061246,0.107632&sll=54.112352,-126.555646&sspn=14.118834,27.553711&oq=Evans+Road,+Err&hnear=Evans+Rd,+Errington,+Nanaimo,+British+Columbia+V0R+1V0&t=m&z=13
We will go out in at least 3 groups, (as we all know what happens when we start to pick up speed!) Kevin will lead the first group at a “gaited” walk (4.5 mph), Barbara and another calm leader will take the next two groups. We have flagged the corners with orange tape on clothes pegs so it is possible to go alone too.
This is nice system of trails with some elevation gains and views, logging roads, and single track. There’s a small creek crossing. It will take about 3.5 hours at a walk so bring a snack and bug repellent. There’s some horse water in puddles along the hydro-line. Hoof protection is highly recommended. Here’s where we’ll be going. (Thanks to Barbara Smith for this image)
First riders out at 10 am.
